Overview
~6%
Average Fee
Traditional cross-border payment systems charge average fees above 6%, creating significant burden for everyday users
2-5 days
Settlement Time
Legacy systems like SWIFT and money-transfer operators take days to settle, with banking holidays causing further delays
Multiple
Intermediaries
Each intermediary in the chain adds cost and complexity, reducing transparency and increasing total transaction fees
The global payments infrastructure remains constrained by legacy banking rails designed decades ago. For P2P transfers and remittances, this translates to high costs, slow settlement, and limited accessibility, particularly impacting users who need fast, affordable money movement most.
The cost of moving money
Understanding the landscape of digital payments and remittances
Problem
Traditional payment rails are failing users
High costs, slow settlement, and accessibility barriers
Issue
Impact
User Pain Point
High Tx Fees
Average 6%+ per transaction, with multiple intermediaries each taking a cut
Users lose significant value on every transfer, especially impactful for remittances
Slow Settlement
2-5 day processing times, constrained by banking hours and holidays
Money sits in transit when it's needed urgently; no visibility into status
Limited Accessibility
Requires traditional bank accounts and infrastructure access
Excludes unbanked populations from participating in digital economy
Opacity & Complexity
Hidden fees, currency conversion markups, unclear total costs
Users can't predict final costs or understand where their money goes
Key Insight
The core infrastructure challenge isn't just about speed or cost in isolation — it's that the entire system was designed for a pre-digital era. Users expect instant, low-cost transfers that work 24/7, but legacy banking rails fundamentally can't deliver on those expectations.

Modern infrastructure for instant, low-cost transfers
Reimagining payment settlement with next-generation technology
How It Works
1
Modern Settlement Infrastructure
Built on next-generation payment rails that enable value transfer without traditional banking intermediaries, dramatically reducing costs
2
Instant, Low-Cost Rails
Modern settlement technology runs continuously with minimal fees (cents instead of percentages), dramatically reducing cost per transaction
3
Familiar Consumer Experience
All technical complexity is abstracted away. Users interact with a simple, familiar payment interface. The innovation is in the infrastructure, not the user experience.
Design Principle
Infrastructure innovation, frontend familiarity. The novel technology operates entirely behind the scenes, enabling revolutionary cost savings and speed. For consumers, it's simply a fast, free payment app. No technical knowledge required.
Traditional Systems
6%+ transaction fees
2-5 day settlement times
Limited to banking hours
Multiple intermediary fees
Modern Infrastructure Solution
Free instant transfers for consumers
Settlement in under 1 minute
24/7 global availability
Direct peer-to-peer settlement
Impact
By leveraging modern infrastructure and next-generation payment rails, we're able to offer what was previously impossible: truly instant, free money transfers that work globally, 24/7. This represents a fundamental shift in payment infrastructure. Not incremental improvement, but a complete reimagining of how value moves between people.
design process
From concept to execution
3
Design Principle
Infrastructure innovation, frontend familiarity. As a project with defined technical constraints, the design challenge was pure translation: take novel technology and create an experience that feels trustworthy and effortless. Hide all complexity. Give users what they actually want. Fast, free payments that just work.
Started with low-fidelity wireframes to rapidly explore core flows: buying, selling, sending. Every iteration asked: can we make this simpler? Focused on progressive disclosure, show what matters now, make details available on demand. Built clear confirmation flows so users always know what they're about to do.

2
Research & understanding the technology
Before designing anything, I needed to deeply understand what made this infrastructure different and how those capabilities would translate to user benefits. Spent time learning the settlement mechanics and identifying which technical advantages actually mattered to consumers.
Competitive Analysis
Studied existing P2P payment apps (Venmo, Cash App, Zelle) to understand established patterns users already trust. The goal: match their simplicity while delivering superior speed and zero fees.
1
Understanding scope & constraints
The backend infrastructure was already defined. My job was to design the consumer-facing experience. The core challenge: how do we abstract all technical complexity while delivering instant, free transfers to mainstream users?
Constraints
• Backend already built
• Must hide all tech complexity
• Target mainstream consumers
Opportunities
• Enable instant transfers
• Zero fees for consumers
• 24/7 availability
The challenge wasn't just interface design. It was translation. How do you take breakthrough technology and present it so simply that users never question how it works? The answer: ruthless simplification and familiar patterns.
This project came from stakeholders who had already built new payment infrastructure capable of 90% cost reduction. My role: design a consumer app that would make free, instant transfers feel as natural as any payment app they've used before.

Early explorations
Iterating on core flows to find the simplest path forward
Core Flows
•
Buy flow: Adding funds with amount input and order preview
•
Sell flow: Converting holdings with quantity selection
•
Send flow: P2P transfers with instant confirmation
Started with low-fidelity wireframes to rapidly explore three primary actions: Buy, Sell, and Send. Each flow needed to feel effortless while supporting instant settlement in the background.
Portfolio iterations showing holdings with key information: ticker name, quantity, current value, and performance metrics. Each holding includes quick action buttons for Buy, Sell, and Send, making primary actions immediately accessible.
Hand-drawn wireframes exploring the basic structure of buy, sell, and order preview screens. Focus on minimal information display and clear action buttons.

Transaction Flows
Buy and sell flow explorations showing amount input, real-time pricing, and order preview screens. Emphasis on transparency, users see exactly what they're getting before confirming any transaction.

Layout variations exploring different approaches to information hierarchy, screen organization and navigation.
Through these iterations, several critical patterns emerged: prioritize current value over historical data, make primary actions immediately accessible from every screen, and show pricing information upfront to build trust. The goal was progressive disclosure. Show what matters now, make details available on demand.

Core functionality walkthrough
Three simple actions powering instant, free payments
The app revolves around three core flows. Each one designed to feel familiar while delivering speed and cost benefits that traditional payment apps can't match. The interface hides all technical complexity. Users just see fast, free transfers.
Portfolio overview
Home screen shows all holdings at a glance with real-time data. Users can quickly assess their portfolio and take action on any asset.
Per Holding
• Ticker/Name & quantity
• Current value & last price
• 24h gain/loss ($ and %)
• Total gain/loss from basis
Quick Actions
• Buy (add more funds)
• Sell (convert to cash)
• Send (instant P2P transfer)

Buy / Add funds
Simple three-step flow to add funds. Users enter an amount, see real-time pricing, and confirm their purchase with a clear order preview. Transparency builds trust. Users see exactly what they're getting before committing.

What Makes It Different
✓
Instant settlement: Money arrives in seconds, not days
✓
Zero fees: No cost to send or receive for consumers
✓
24/7 availability: Works anytime, no banking hours

Design Philosophy
Every interaction prioritizes clarity and confidence. Users should always know where they are in a flow, what action they're about to take, and what the outcome will be. The app's simplicity isn't about dumbing down. It's about respecting users time and removing friction from financial transactions that should be effortless.
